FINDING YOUR STARTING POINT

Is this you?

  • You and your partner want different things in bed, or want sex at different amounts, and it's causing tension.

  • Sex has started to feel like pressure, a chore, or something you avoid.

  • You're dealing with pain, arousal, erection, or orgasm concerns and don't know who to ask.

  • Shame about your body, your desires, or your past gets in the way of feeling close.

  • You're exploring your sexuality, gender, kink, or an open relationship and want a therapist who won't flinch.

  • You keep having the same fight and want to actually feel connected again.

How we help

Our sex therapists are trained to talk about sex plainly and without judgment. That's often a relief all on its own. We work with individuals and couples, and we're LGBTQIA+ affirming and kink-positive.

Sex therapy is talk therapy. Nothing physical happens in session. Depending on what you're working on, your therapist may draw on sex therapy techniques, the Gottman method for couples, CBT, or trauma-focused approaches like Brainspotting. You might get small exercises to try at home, always at a pace you choose.

In the first month, your therapist gets to know you (or both of you), what's been happening, and what you want things to feel like. Couples usually start with a joint session. Some people add individual sessions along the way. From there, you build a plan together, and you can always change it.

What it costs

Individual sessions are $200 to $225, and couples sessions are $250 to $300. Most clients pay privately and use their out-of-network benefits: we send a superbill every month, and many PPO plans pay back part of each session. Some of our clinicians are in-network with select plans, so ask us during your free consult.

Frequently asked questions

What actually happens in sex therapy?

You talk. Sex therapy is a form of talk therapy, so nothing physical happens in session. Your therapist helps you understand what's getting in the way and may suggest exercises or conversations to try at home.

Do I need to come with my partner?

No. Many people come on their own. If you're in a relationship, you can start alone and bring your partner in later, or come together from the start.

Do you work with LGBTQIA+ clients, kink, and non-monogamy?

Yes. Our sex therapists are LGBTQIA+ affirming and kink-positive, and they work with people in monogamous, open, and polyamorous relationships.

Is sex therapy covered by insurance?

Often in part. Many plans reimburse therapy through out-of-network benefits when there's a diagnosis, and couples therapy coverage varies by plan. We send a monthly superbill and can help you check your benefits.

I'm nervous to even bring this up. Is that normal?

Completely. Most people feel awkward at first. Our therapists talk about sex every day, so you don't need the right words. Start wherever you are.
