FINDING YOUR STARTING POINT

Is this you?

  • You understand what happened, but your body still reacts like it's happening now.

  • A memory, image, smell, or sound can send you right back.

  • You've done talk therapy and still feel stuck on the same thing.

  • Nightmares, flashbacks, or panic keep showing up.

  • You'd rather not retell every detail of what happened.

  • One event, or years of smaller ones, changed how safe you feel.

How we help

EMDR and ART are structured therapies that use guided eye movements to help your brain reprocess painful memories, so they lose their emotional charge. The memory stays, but it stops running your day. You stay in control the whole time, and you don't have to describe every detail out loud.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is one of the most researched trauma treatments and is recommended in major PTSD treatment guidelines. ART (Accelerated Resolution Therapy) is a newer, briefer therapy built on similar eye movements, designed to bring relief in fewer sessions.

Vasilina Orlova, MHC-LP, specializes in trauma treatment using EMDR, and also uses ERP for OCD and phobias. Elene Garay, LMSW, is trained in ART and Breath-Body-Mind, and works with the nervous system to help clients feel calmer and more grounded. Before any memory work, you'll build skills to steady yourself, and you'll start processing only when you feel ready.

Frequently asked questions

Does EMDR or ART work over video?

Yes. Your therapist guides the eye movements on screen, and many clients find it works well from the comfort of home. You'll need a private space and a laptop or tablet rather than a phone, so the screen is big enough.

How are EMDR and ART different?

Both use eye movements to help the brain reprocess painful memories. EMDR has a longer research history and a more gradual structure. ART is newer and designed to work in fewer sessions. Your free consult is a good time to talk through which fits you.

Do I have to talk about what happened?

Not in detail. Your therapist needs a general sense of what you're working on, but a lot of the processing happens internally. You decide how much you share.

Is it only for PTSD?

No. People also use EMDR and ART for anxiety, phobias, painful memories, and experiences that never had a name but still weigh on them.

What if I need help right now?
